Livingston County United Way rallied 563 Volunteers for 741 shifts at the 19th annual Day of Caring held on August 11th. Day of Caring is the largest one-day volunteer event in the entire county. In a single day, these amazing volunteers completed 67 projects, including pouring concrete walks, installing plumbing, painting, household cleaning, yard clean up, deck repairs and so much more!

Each year, we receive many project requests from seniors and people with disabilities that simply want to live safely in their homes.  Often this is yard work or light cleaning and even one project was just to change light bulbs and smoke detector batteries this year.  These simple supports can make a huge difference as one homeowner shares:

I just wanted you to know how grateful I am for the angels who volunteered to help me yesterday.  I am overwhelmed with joy and humility at their generosity of time and effort.  I shared my gratitude on Facebook to spread the word of the kindness still in the world!

To see our local businesses, give their employees the opportunity to volunteer during normal work hours, allows them to build relationships with their co-workers and work as a team in a way that cannot be done at the workplace or at a seminar. This value can be seen by the 28 companies that brought a team this year!  Even our local high schools teams come out to make a difference, with 7 teams joining us this year.  A great example; The Howell Lacrosse Team poured a concrete walkway for a woman who has a gravel driveway and has been struggling with her wheelchair over the gravel.  They were unable to finish it due to severe weather on Wednesday and came back on Saturday to get the job done! This is exactly what we want to see happen. Our volunteers are compassionate and want to make a real impact in the community!

We know without the generosity of the volunteers, local businesses and sponsorships, Day of Caring would not be possible! We are so grateful and proud of our community! THANK YOU!
